\"\"This association was founded to help and support parents by taking into consideration their suffering. It\u00a0was founded on January 21rst 2000<\/b>\u00a0in\u00a0Ecouflant<\/b>\u00a0by\u00a0Mr and Mrs VOISINE<\/b>, Audrey\u2019s parents who died swiftly of meningitis while she was 12.

Audrey died of a\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0purpura fulminans\u00a0\u00bb, in other words a meningitis caused by meningococcus. If the knowledge about this disease had been more spread among people, the disease would have had less chances to lead Audrey to death.

Mr and Mrs Voisine had the idea to found this association as\u00a0a tribute to all the victims who died of this disease<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0to help all the people who are currently concerned and their family<\/b>. But, what they really intend to do through this association is\u00a0to communicate<\/b>\u00a0about the disease in order to reduce the risk of being affected and suffering from serious consequences.

The association Audrey is an\u00a0association of parents<\/b>\u00a0whose aim is\u00a0to increase knowledge about the different existing types of meningitis<\/b>, help people to better understand this disease and to anticipate it.<\/p>\n\n

This association is known\u00a0not only at a regional scale but also at a national scale since March 2002<\/b>\u00a0which allowed it to launch actions in several regions in France:<\/p>\n

Since the creation of this net, the association wants to go on expanding itself towards other regions which\u00a0will facilitate the work with the local\u00a0sanitary authorities<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0improve the efficiency of the local actions<\/b>.

In Maine-et-Loire, leading department, in September 2001<\/b>, there was a poster campaign in nursery and elementary schools, day nurseries and waiting rooms of doctors\u2019 offices in order to facilitate an early screening for meningitis.

In 2002, the association organized an evening of information about meningitis with the help of the D.D.A.S.S., the hospital of Angers and Pasteur Institute. That evening was the first step to organize later a complete day about meningitis in Paris \u00a0at the Health Ministry in November 2003.

In April 2003 the association was invited at the medical Congress of the Espid in Europe and took part in a press conference alongside the British association \u201cMeningitis trust\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

In September 2004, we signed a charter for the creation of\u00a0a confederation of meningitis organisations<\/b>\u00a0which gathers 12 countries.

\"\"Once the campaign in Maine-et-Loire in 2001 achieved, we began a campaign of information about meningitis \u00a0caused by meningococcus at the national scale on February 2nd<\/sup>\u00a02004, among the educational field. More concretely, we provided schools (from elementary schools to high schools) with posters and doctors and scholar nurses with leaflets. These actions were supported and financed by Education Ministry and Health Ministry.

Together with the national pharmaceutical association flyers and brochures were distributed to pharmacies.

In 2004, three sessions \u00a0about meningitis were planned. On October 1rst in Bordeaux by the Association Audrey 40 Yohann, on October 14th<\/sup>\u00a0in Paris in the auditorium of Pasteur Institute and on November 17th<\/sup>\u00a0in the Town Hall of Lyon.<\/p>\n\n

The association Audrey works in collaboration with Ministry of Family, the family allowance office and the registry office of Angers to supply a psychological and material help. Since 1rst November 2000, the registry office informs the family allowance office to offer the help of a social worker to the families.

Thanks to our action benefits supplied by the State after the child\u2019s death are delivered for three months more as it is mentioned in the law of 1rst January 2004. This is at the origin of our reward namely\u00a0the title of \u201cChevalier dans l\u2019ordre national du m\u00e9rite\u201d<\/b>\u00a0which is\u00a0 a national and official distinction for a good and useful action.
<\/b>We keep on filling the legal vacuum relative to the annual 7000 death of children in France for\u00a0any reason<\/b>.
On 22nd<\/sup>\u00a02006 and within the framework of labor laws the Senate adopted\u00a0a four days leave instead of the former two days leave after a child or a spouse\u2019s death<\/b>.

<\/b>In November 2004,\u00a0a leaflet about bereavement was launched<\/b>\u00a0in Maine-et-Loire (in the western part of France) and distributed by the funeral department of the hospital of Angers, the registry office and the family allowance office of Anjou (region of Angers).

Several days of information about meningitis were organized in 2008 – in Strasbourg on 11th March and\u00a0 in Angers on 20th<\/sup>\u00a0November – and in 2009 \u2013 in Lille on 24th<\/sup>\u00a0March. Such days of prevention and information about meningitis will take place soon at the Ministry of Health in Paris.

The association does its best \u00a0to create a foundation about meningitis to help better the families concerned.<\/p>\n\n\n

Purposes <\/h2>\n\n\n

Since its creation, the association has launched numerous projects in order to\u00a0inform people about the early symptoms<\/b>\u00a0and the serious consequences of the disease and\u00a0develop a better knowledge of it<\/b>\u00a0among the persons who regularly take care of children in schools, day nurseries, leisure centers and even in places of health.

The association mainly aims at\u00a0helping the parents, the sisters and the brothers<\/b>\u00a0who are in mourning after their child or sister\/brother\u2019s death for any reason. This, in one hand, to humanize the relationship \u00a0with the Civil Service and, on the other hand, to offer a psychological and a material help to the families.<\/p>\n\n\n

Transparency <\/h2>\n\n\n

The transparency of our purposes and the reliability of our association justifies that we are helped by health authorities which take part in our days of information at our side.
We were financed by Ministry of Health and Ministry of National Education for a national campaign in schools in France.
Pasteur Institute takes part in our days of information about meningitis at our side.
The Council of pharmacists collaborates with us to communicate about our actions.
